Food Control

Food Control monitors the primary production, preparation, import and export, marketing, transport, keeping on the market, serving and other transfer of food. Food Control also monitors the production, import and wholesaling of food contact materials.

The duties of Porvoo Environmental Health Services include the monitoring of food premises in Askola, Lapinjärvi, Loviisa, Pornainen, Porvoo and Sipoo.

Consumer

It is the responsibility of Food Control to protect the consumer from health hazards and loss of money caused by foodstuffs.

  • you suspect you have food poisoning.

  • you pause or cease food premise operations
  • you plan to sell or serve food out of mobile food premises
  • you plan to import or export food
  • you plan to start operations related to contact materials
  • you suspect a customer has contracted food poisoning from your product
  • you wish to receive more information about food control or foodstuffs.

Food sector operators must ensure that all stages of production, processing and distribution for which they are responsible comply with the applicable legislation.

Food sector operators must be familiar with the health hazards and critical areas related to their operations in terms of food safety.

The Oiva report is a public document written about the official checks of food premises. It offers consumers information about observations made during the checks, such as the business’s level of hygiene and product safety.
